France: Death Threats for a Report on Islamism

Reportage de “Zone Interdite” à Roubaix : menacé de mort, un militant associatif dénonce la montée de l’intégrisme islamiste dans la ville (Report by “Zone Interdite” in Roubaix: threatened with death, an association activist denounces the rise of Islamist fundamentalism in the city), Louise Buyens, Franceinfo, 2022-01-31.

In the northern French city of Roubaix, near Lille, a television journalist, Ophélie Meunier, and her interview guest, Amine Elbahi, have been placed under police protection after receiving death threats following the program “Zone Interdite” (“Forbidden Zone”) which included a report on Islamist activities in that city.

Those threatened have received the support of several journalists’ associations. This contrasts with the cowardice which is the rule in Canada, a recent example being the medical journal CMAJ which censored a letter criticizing the veiling of young girls after being accused of so-called “Islamophobia” by the National Council of Canadian Muslims (NCCM).

According to police sources quoted by Le Monde, there are between 120 and 150 people now living under police protection in France.
