Prix de la laïcité Guy-Rocher Awarded to MLQ

Le gouvernement du Québec remet le tout premier Prix de la laïcité Guy-Rocher (Quebec Government Awards Very First Guy-Rocher Secularism Prize), Press release from the office of the Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of Quebec, Le Lézard, 2021-06-16.

The government of Quebec has awarded the very first Prix de la laïcité Guy-Rocher (Guy-Rocher Secularism Prize) to the Mouvement laïque québécois (MLQ, Quebec Secular Movement) at a ceremony held in the auditorium of the Grande Bibliothèque in Montreal.

Founded in 1981, the Mouvement laïque québécois is firmly committed to defending secularism and freedom of conscience. The MLQ promotes a society in which believers of all faiths and non-believers may live together with respect, freedom and equality of every citizen before the law. During its 40 years of existence, the MLQ has been at the forefront of the progress that Quebec has made towards secularism, whether it be the deconfessionalization of the school system, respect for freedom of conscience, in particular in city council meetings, or the inclusion of the principle of secularism in legislation.

Congratulations to the MLQ!

The MLQ is one of three organizations which intervened before Quebec Superior Court in support of Bill 21 during the recent proceedings (November and December 2020). The other two are Pour les droits de femmes du Québec (PDF-Q) and ourselves, Libres penseurs athées—Atheist Freethinkers.
