Ottawa Must Stop Funding the NCCM

Ottawa doit cesser de financer le Conseil national des musulmans canadiens (Ottawa Must Stop Funding the National Council of Canadian Muslims (NCCM)), Collective, Journal de Montréal, 2023-04-17.

The NCCM has every right to criticize the Quebec government or to oppose Bill 21. Freedom of expression is a fundamental value in our democracy. However, there are limits to denigrating the French-speaking national minority and this was crossed on March 15 by Stephen Brown, president of the organization.

Mr. Brown suggested that Quebecers are intolerant and that this constitutes a threat to the lives of Muslims. Nothing could be further from the truth. […]

Collective letter, signed by some 40 persons, including the president of Atheist Freethinkers, asking the federal government to cut all funding to the National Council of Canadian Muslims which repeatedly denigrates Quebec and Quebeckers, as part of its campaign against Bill 21, and makes false allegations about the effects of that law.
