for AFT discussion forums

Code of Ethics

Failure to respect the following rules of conduct may lead to the permanent suspension of your account,
after three warnings, without reimbursement, at the sole discretion of AFT.

Respect:

• You agree to post no messages which are offensive, vulgar, defamatory, threatening, sexual or which violate applicable laws.
• You agree to respect other persons. Respect applies to people, not to ideas. You are therefore free to disrespect ideas and to criticize them freely.
• In case of conflict, if a discussion drags on with a particular individual, continue the conversation in private in order to resolve your differences, thus avoiding polluting the forums.

Personal Comments:

• Avoid comments which are too personal or only target an author in a personal way.

Relevance:

• Messages should be constructive and add something to the discussion. If your posts contain repetitive criticism and are devoid of arguments, they could be viewed as being from a troll and may lead to your account being suspended.

Copyright:

• You agree to respect copyright: avoid copying and pasting content from entire web pages or from other sources if they are not free of copyright. You can, however, quote reasonable excerpts.

Confidentialité:

• All contents of the AFT Forum—except for the public sections labelled Public and Flarum—are confidential. You agree not to copy any such content, with the intention of sharing it outside the organization Atheist Freethinkers, unless you first obtain the express permission of the authors of the content so copied.

Best Practices

These practices are strongly recommended.

Topics of Discussion:

• Only one subject per discussion. To start a new discussion on a new topic, please compose a completely new message. Do not reply to an existing post if you change the subject completely.
• For each new topic, try to give your post a specific subject line in order to avoid overly general titles which make it difficult for others to know what content to expect.

Sharing Links:

• It is best to remove unnecessary parameters from the end of a URL. The question mark and everything after it in a web address is probably unnecessary (and you can test for those rare instances where the parameters are necessary). For example, in the link
      https://www.atheology.ca/briefs/legal-fund/?fbclid=IwAR3sayczBRRezU6h4T7
  the part at the end
      ?fbclid=IwAR3sayczBRRezU6h4T7
  is unnecessary and may be removed.
